Maps & Atlases es una banda originaria de Chicago, Illinois, principalmente influenciada por la música experimental y el folk, pero actualmente se inclinan más hacia el math rock, surgieron en el 2004 cuando algunos de los miembros se conocieron en el Columbia College Chicago, con una influencia en común: una banda llamada Hella, representativa del math rock.
